How to Apply

To obtain a French working holiday visa, it is compulsory to apply at the French Consulate in your home country (Australia, Canada or New Zealand). However, it is possible for some nationalities to apply outside their home country if they have a residence permit for greater than 6 months (e.g. Australians can apply for the French Working Holiday visa in London if they hold a 2 year Youth Mobility or Ancestry Visa and are living and working in the England). Unfortunately if you are working in Canada with a Canadian Working Holiday Visa, you can’t apply at the French Consulate in Canada and must return to your home country to apply).

  • For Australians, you must attend an appointment in Sydney.

  • For New Zealanders, you must attend an appointment in Wellington. New Zealand passport holders cannot apply in Australia.

  • For Australians living in the UK, you must attend an appointment in London or Edinburgh.

  • For Canadians, depending on the province in which you reside, you must post your application to the French Consulate in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver.

You can’t apply at a French Embassy or French Consulate in any other cities.

It takes time to get the necessary documents together and book an appointment to apply for a working holiday visa for France. It is recommended that you start the process at least 3 months before your expected departure for France. In Canada and Australia applications can’t be made more than 3 months before the intended arrival into France. In New Zealand, applications can’t be made more than 6 months before intended arrival into France.
